Fern Berkley and Florence Kingsley aren't your everyday average high school teenagers. Each one has their own story to tell. When they both unexpectedly unite, strange happenings begin to revolve around them as they become closer than ever before. This may seem like your usual high school drama full of secrets, but this drama has some fantasy.... and some royal secrets.
She is the most complex protagonist in the series: a fifteen-year old high school student, currently ranked as the second most popular girl in her school. Fern is your run-of-the-mill teenager with a taste in fashion and boys. She seems to living in the lap of luxury with her best friend, Jules, and her pet cricket, Juliet, but the only thing she wants in her life is her parents. They've been working full-time shifts since she was ten and are rarely home to tend to the house, so Fern is often left in the care of a butler named Luke. As a result, she battles with many insecurities, and often compares herself with other pets in unhealthy manners.

In the public eye, she is the princess of Pawtopia. But Florence considers herself as an ordinary fifteen-year old teenage girl. All she wants to do is live a normal life, without the unnecessary attention of crowding fans that awe and adore her everywhere she goes. Florence is a textbook bookworm, and isn't one to care so much about her looks. Feeling crammed inside her castle with her overprotective parents, Florence longs to go against the tide and live freely without the pressure of high expectations. Despite her own wishes, she continues to stress over the small stuff to make her parents happy.

She's been Fern's best friend since elementary school. Before meeting Fern, Jules was a quiet and shy introvert who had trouble socializing with others. Now she's very bubbly, more confident, and acts like your typical teenage girl with a good taste in fashion. During her spare time, she enjoys shopping, reading magazines, and, of course, spending time with Fern. However, Jules also deeply cares about Fern, and will stop at nothing to make sure she is content. She is the only one Fern can trust with any secret.

She is the most complex antagonist in the series: the most popular girl in Fern's high school. Shelby constantly teased Jules about her looks in elementary school until Fern stood up to her. Since that day, they are always on edge around each other, and Shelby won't stop until she knows that her reputation is safe from falling. However, her life at home is terrible, as she only has her dad who constantly abuses Shelby (her mom left when Shelby was 3 years old.) Because of this, Shelby feels like the only way to escape the pain is to make others feel her pain, especially towards Fern, who appears to have no troubles in life.

Matthew Dillon
He is one of the castle's servants and a good friend of Florence. Despite his title in the Kingsley family, he is treated fairly in the household, yet he takes his role seriously & diligently. Matthew is a well-intentioned pet, but he can have his airhead moments at times. He was originally an orphan peasant back in Pawtopia, but Queen Rachel caught him scrounging for food behind the castle, and pitifully decided to take him in. Since then, Matthew has always been eager to please, even though the Queen thinks that he could use a break during his hard-working hours.

She is another one of the castle's servants and Florence's inseparable best friend since they were babies. Like Matthew, she is treated fairly in the household by the royal family. Alice has had a huge crush on Matthew since he started working for the King and Queen, in hopes that he will notice her one day. And like Florence, Alice is a huge bookworm, so she sometimes gives Florence some life advice whenever she feels down. She is often submissive, soft-spoken, and extremely compliant with any order given within the castle.

King James & Queen Rachel
They are the King and Queen of Pawtopia, respectively, and are Florence's parents. James, who handles Pawtopia's diplomatic relations, is an easy-going kind of guy who likes to keep things on a moderate level for everyone. Although, he's not afraid to put his paw down if anyone dares to get on his bad side. On the other hand, Rachel, who handles Pawtopia's economic finances, is what you would call your typical stay-at-home mom, though she reigns more authority in the castle than most mothers. She's overly protective of Florence, and sets her up with high expectations as she wishes the very best for her daughter. Rachel was originally a peasant when she met James as a prince. They eventually fell in love and married years later. They seem to be hiding something, though we will never know for sure...
